Ray Young

Award-winning Artist, Writer, Educator, and Coach

Mentor

Ray is an award-winning transdisciplinary performance artist, writer, educator, and coach, creating unique, genre-defying work through collaboration and resistance to traditional forms. Ray's practice walks the boundaries of live art, activism, and immersive experience. Examining race, queerness, climate justice, and neurodiversity, Ray's work holds space for those facing intersecting systemic barriers, celebrating and championing these identities.

Ray's writing includes commissions for The Royal Court, Music Theatre Wales, and Brighton Festival. They were also selected for the Royal Court Writer's Group and the BBC Writer's Room. Their work has been published in collections such as Writing Queer Performance by Finnian Tweed and Women in Performance by Sarah Gorman.

Ray is committed to empowering others through sharing their knowledge and experience. They maintain an ongoing practice in mentoring, coaching, and teaching at institutions such as the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Goldsmiths University, London Contemporary Dance School, the University of Warwick, and the University of Roehampton. They have also spoken at events and panels across the UK, US, and Canada, sharing their expertise on topics such as anti-racism, accessibility, and sustainability in the arts.

Ray's critically acclaimed work has toured internationally and across the UK, with performances at venues including Sadler's Wells, the Horizon Showcase at the Edinburgh Festival, and the Southbank Centre for the Unlimited Festival. International presentations include the Venice Biennale, Push Festival (Vancouver), VIERNULVIER (Belgium), ImPulsTanz (Vienna), Skopje Pride (Macedonia), Théâtre L'Usine (Geneva), Boom Arts (Portland), and Fundació Marso (Mexico City).
